The Director of Annual Giving at Berkeley Law develops and implements a comprehensive and complex program to raise unrestricted and current use funds. The Director manages, evaluates, and analyzes the structure of the annual gift campaign, which encompasses alumni, friends, students, and faculty. The annual giving program includes the solicitation of approximately 14,000 individuals through direct mail, telemarketing, alumni class campaigns, faculty campaigns, student appeals, and personal solicitation.
In addition to the ongoing activities of the program, the Director will create and implement new strategies for increasing both the amount of funds raised and the number of donors. The Director is responsible for developing appropriate written materials including letters, brochures, invitations, response pieces, and other printed materials as needed. The Director is also responsible for integrating the annual fund program with other development activities at the Law School and with the campus.
Responsibilities:
Manage a comprehensive fundraising program typically in a unit or department
Manage a fundraising staff comprised of both professionals and related administrative support
Select, train, mentor, guide, and direct subordinate staff
Conceive, create, develop, implement, and manage fundraising programs and strategies to successfully meet predetermined goals and objectives, and ensure that predetermined fundraising goals are met
Conduct and participate in long and short-range strategic planning
Oversee and manage the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of donors and donor prospects
Manage other external relations functions, such as volunteers, outreach, etc.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
Strong knowledge of all aspects of fundraising and donor and public relations, including strategies for donor identification, cultivation ,and solicitation
Strong knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.
Strong knowledge of the campus, its achievements, vision, mission, goals, objectives, applicable policies, infrastructure, and current issues of concern
Strong knowledge of management/leadership concepts, principles, and best practices
Strong leadership/management skills to select, train, mentor, evaluate, and motivate staff
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills and political acumen to establish and maintain good working relationships within all organizational levels and with outside constituencies
Strong skills to meet predetermined goals and objectives, including securing gifts and meeting fundraising goals
Strong strategic planning skills and skills to conceive, design, implement, evaluate, and manage fundraising programs and strategies
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
Strong skills in persuasion/negotiation with strong marketing skills
Extensive experience in developing and directing comprehensive annual giving programs aimed at a professional audience
Ability to make effective verbal and written presentations
Experience in marketing a non-tangible product
Experience in managing a high-level volunteer organization
Preferred:
Strong marketing background or knowledge
Ability to develop creative communications plans for senior volunteers through market analysis

The annual salary range for this position is $59,600 - $90,000.
