This is the initial hire on the architecture team of a very well-funded and managed startup. The technology is a consumer-based platform built in J2EE/Java. I am specifically looking for people from the consumer technology world including (but not limited to): eBay, Yahoo!, Amazon, Netflix, Hotwire, etc.
The Architect's role is to leverage state-of-the-art technology to deliver compelling, relevant, and personalized content to our users.
Responsibilities:
Evaluates and makes build-vs-buy recommendations for key technology components, including:
Recommendation engines
Search engines
Social networking frameworks
Content filtering and categorization
Designs and implements personalization services and capabilities.
Drives development from initial concept and requirements through implementation to customer success.
Works closely with Product Management to understand and drive user requirements.
Key Skills:
8+ years experience building and maintaining complex systems for high performance, availability, and scalability
MS or higher in computer science
Expertise applying modern J2EE frameworks, including Spring and Hibernate, across multiple projects
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, combined with a passion for teaching and learning
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Demonstrated ability to understand and master new technologies quickly
Thrives on developing innovative ideas and executing them in a fast-paced, rapidly moving startup environment
Expertise in one or more of the following specific technologies is desirable:
Collaborative filtering
Content based recommendation engines
Social Networking Platforms such as OpenSocial
Personalized Portals/Home Pages
Content Management Systems
Text Search Engines
Metadata Frameworks
