We view technology as a business tool, and we manage our clients’ IT so they can focus on their core business. Job Description: Flight Leader.
The Flight Leader has 2 big responsibilities: Managing a staff of up to 10 Mission Engineers (“techies” who perform onsite and remote support for Bay Area small businesses), and keeping our clients super-satisfied.
It‘s a full time IT consulting gig, but you won't be spending all your time doing tech work yourself. Instead, you'll provide our clients with strategic advice on where they should direct their IT resources. You’ll work with our Mission Control Coordinator to schedule our staff for project and support work. You’ll take on all Project Management. And you’ll lead from the front.
There are some inside sales responsibilities - we have a line of managed services that many of our clients need - but this is not primarily sales job. Flight Leaders are essentially business consultants with an IT focus - they utilize their technical knowledge to provide direction and options to our clients.
More than anything, the IT Manager’s primary responsibility is client satisfaction. You will be the primary contact for all interactions with your clients, and will get to know their businesses intimately. There's a lot of freedom -- but also a lot of responsibility.
So what the hell is the day to day like?
**Help Schedule and oversee a staff of ~10 Mission Engineers who perform onsite and remote technical support and consulting for our clients
**Coordinate responses to IT emergencies
**Create Project Plans and managed projects from start to finish
**Maintain regular communication with key contacts at clients to ensure adequate support and monitor client satisfaction
**Perform frequent high level consulting, including advice on new technologies, recommended upgrades, process and policies in regards to IT
**Some sales, inlcuding new client pitches with our CEO and selling our managed services to our existing clients

Who we're looking for.
Personality. You must have excellent verbal, written and presentation skills to do this job. You need to be the kind of person that people like to have around. It doesn’t hurt to have a sense of humor and a strong desire to help people. If you live online and not in the real world, this job isn’t for you.
Tech Skills. Even though you won't be doing a lot of tech work yourself, you must have significant IT experience, since that's the knowledge our clients are paying for. This is a perfect position for someone who’s spent several years doing IT and now wants to work on the business and HR implications with small businesses.
People Skills. Not a lot of people in IT have them, but without them you can't do this job. Charm goes a long way.
Confidence. You are the expert, so you'll need to be comfortable making recommendations to our clients that they may not want to hear if it makes sense for their business (i.e. "You need to buy a $3,000 server because it will ultimately save you $6,000 in support costs and headaches.") This is perhaps the most important skill.
Qualifications.
You must have significant technical experience. Technical Project Management experience is key. Do not apply if you are pure sales or account management. This means several years of general Sys Admin skills, Exchange server skills, Windows 2000/3 server skills, OS X admin skills, (nunchuck skills, bowhunting skills, computer hacking skills.....) and a great deal of Windows XP/Vista knowledge. That said, some inside sales or account management experience is greatly preferred, but if you can demonstrate that you are dedicated and have the people skills we might be willing to give you a try.
